The Akron Public Schools Board of Education has made it official at this evening’s board meeting and approved the appointment of Tamea R. Caver, Ph.D., as the district’s new chief academic officer and assistant superintendent, effective June 7, 2022. She replaces Ellen McWilliams-Woods, Ph.D., who is retiring at the end of the school year.

Dr. Caver will transition with Ellen McWilliams-Woods, Ph.D., prior to her departure and says she is looking forward to meeting the staff, students and families of Akron Public Schools. She has invested more than 20 years in public education with a unique blend of school, regional and central office experience.

Dr. Caver began her teaching and administrative careers in the Dallas Independent School District. Most recently, she served the Warrensville Heights City School District as assistant superintendent of curriculum and instruction for the past seven years. She has also taught math and served as principal in the Cleveland Municipal School District. Dr. Caver even served as a human resources manager and director of curriculum and instruction at points in time for Breakthrough Schools in Cleveland.

Superintendent Christine Fowler Mack welcomed Caver, saying, “We look forward to working with Tamea and benefitting from her knowledge, experience and leadership. She is definitely looking forward to learning from our team, building relationships, and understanding how she can support our work by leading our district with integrity, energy and a focus on excellence through equity.”
