Congratulations to The East CLC 7th grade students who were inducted into the National Junior Honor Society (NJHS) on May 20. The inductees were Taylor, Stormie-Lee, Izabell, and Danea. The induction ceremony was held in the school auditorium with NJHS honorees, parents and families, student council members, AVID members, student ambassadors, and student leaders in attendance. National Junior Honor Society (NJHS) elevates a school’s commitment to the values of scholarship, service, leadership, character, and citizenship. The East CLC Ambassador members delivered the importance of each "pillar" to the audience. During the induction ceremony which was opened by Campus Principal Mr. Noland, inductees were addressed by Academy Principal, Mr. Proctor. He reminded them of the essential role that they play in their school and in the community. Mrs. Jones-Hunter, Professional School Counselor 7 & 8, and Mr. Casterlow, MS College & Career Academy Coach, also participated in the ceremony.
Each member received an official NJHS certificate and a gift bag with NJHS t-shirt that was made in the middle school makerspace.
NJHS Chapter Adviser, Mrs. Jones-Hunter, and Faculty Council Members: Mr. Casterlow, Ms. McKenna, Mrs. Koger, Mrs. Kramer, Mrs. Kalaitsides, coordinated the ceremony. An East CLC NJHS tradition "Dragon Unity" was initiated with the creativity of Ms. Zanders. This tradition was a sand art jar, with layers of colorful sand, to honor the supporters in their lives in these specific areas:
The sand represents:
-
the NJHS members' unique gifts and talents
-
the support of their loved ones and their sacrifices
-
the opportunities and diversity in their school and community
-
the support and encouragement of the East CLC staff
-
their commitment to make a difference
It was an honor to induct the first class of the National Junior Honor Society.
